Disability and Climate Resilience Research Report
This report aims to support policy and programme work that builds the resilience of people with disabilities to climate shocks
Abstract
To date, very little work has explored issues around people with disabilities and resilience-building in the context of longer-term climatic and environmental change. This 14-month exploratory research project aims to address this gap and increase the understanding of the links between disability and climate resilience, and in turn to support the delivery of policy and programme work that builds the resilience of people with disabilities to climate shocks and stresses. To do so, it addresses the following questions:
- What is the relationship between disability and an individual’s vulnerability/resilience to climatic shocks and stresses?
- How can interventions build the resilience of people with disabilities to climatic shocks and stresses?
To address these research questions, a range of methods were used to gather as comprehensive a picture as possible of the current situation, as well as obtain empirical data from affected populations in Kenya and Bangladesh.
This research was funded by the Department for International Development’s Policy Research Fund
