Distribution of gravel-sized and fine particulate materials from Mount Pinatubo, Philippines.
Abstract
This report summarises the volcanic products emitted from Mount Pinatubo during its eruption of June, 1991. Mount Pinatubo is only 75km from Manila and engineers are keen to make use of its voluminous eruptive products. The notes herein are gleaned from a report on the eruption called Fire and Mud (Newhall and Punongbayan, 1996).
The objective of this study was to identify geomorphological circumstances associated with the eruption in which two types of deposit, fine grained ashes (as possible sources of pozzolanic material) and well-graded gravels (for use as road-base or sub-base), may have accumulated. From these circumstances it may be possible to home in on localitites where such materials might be found.
