Educational opportunities for the poor, Sri Lanka.
Abstract
Three significant measures (the Free School Textbook Programme, the Free School Uniform Programme, and the Navodya School Development programme), introduced by successive governments of Sri Lanka since 1980, that are designed to enhance the quality of education and increase educational opportunities for the poor, thereby increasing school enrolment and completion, are described. The objectives, lessons learned, background, details, implementation, impacts, and factors contributing to success are outlined.
