Abstract

This paper reviews the empirical literature to present the evidence on the effects of remittances and migration on migrant sending countries, communities and households. It is one of a 3 part study looking at the role of remittance and migration in economic development, and poverty reduction in least developed countries by exploring the best practices in the migration policy sector that has successfully maximised the impact of remittances. The other two parts of the study are: Risks for migrants at the destination; Potential products and policies to leverage productive use of migration and remittances.
