Emancipating the rural population from isolation - Intermediate means of Transport - The case of Ethiopia in Sub-Saharan Africa

Abstract

This paper aims to present the role of intermediate means of transport (IMTs) in Ethiopia in a multi-modal rural transport system, and why it should be a development agenda. It includes discussion of the design of animal-drawn carts, challenges to road transport in Ethiopia, and an overview of studies in pilot woredas.
