Ensuring medicines save lives: Facilitating access
Abstract
This presentation describes the efforts needed to ensure that antimalarial treatments are available to and affordable for those who need them, using the example of MMV's Coartem Dispersible formulation, the work of the Affordable Medicines Facility for malaria (AMFm), whose pilot project in Uganda succeeded in largely replacing chloroquine by artemisinin combination therapies for the treatment of under-fives, and the use of improved information systems such as the mobile-phone-based 'SMS for Life' in Tanzania to improve supply.
