Ethical consumption in Brazil and Chile: institutional contexts and development trajectories.

Abstract

This paper introduces the ESRC-DFID Choices project and gives an overview of ethical consumption in Chile and Brazil. It makes the argument that it is high time for more ethical consumption research focusing on markets in the global South. Instead of simply focusing on an individual ethical consumer, and analysis of the understandings and practices of \"ethical consumption\" needs to include different countries' specific political, economic and institutional trajectories.
