Ethnobotany of Weeds in Cochabamba

Abstract

This report is an output of the “The development of integrated weed management strategies for hillsides in the valleys of Cochabamba, Bolivia” (PROMMASEL) (A0814/ZA0276/R7325). Project objectives are (a) to characterise weed problems and assess the extent to which current weeding practices contribute to soil erosion and (b) based on this information, to develop improved weed management strategies to reduce erosion while maintaining crop yield. The report is based on fieldwork from January 15 to January 26, 2001, in 3 Andean provinces of Cochabamba, Bolivia, where interviews about weeds were conducted with local farmers.
