Evaluation of DFID Online Research Portals and Repositories: Inception Phase Substantive Report

This Inception Phase Report and an Evaluation Brief have been published to accompany the Final Evaluation Report

Abstract

In 2014 the Department for International Development commissioned an evaluation of a small sample of the online research portals and repositories which it supports. A consortium of Mott MacDonald and the Open University was awarded the evaluation contract. The evaluation focussed on 3 portals and repositories supported by DFID: Eldis, Research4Development (R4D) and SciDev.Net.

Following revisions of the evaluation design, in January 2015 a 3 month Inception phase (Stage 1) began to collate, synthesise and analyse existing evidence and to confirm the purpose and design of the evaluation. The result is the Inception Phase Substantive Report.

The Final Evaluation of DFID Online Research Portals and Repositories with Appendices was published in July 2016.

The Evaluation of DFID Online Research Portals and Repositories: Evaluation Brief was published in November 2016 summarising the evaluation objectives, findings, methodology and recommendations.
