FAC Working Paper 69. The State and Performance of African Agriculture and the Impact of Structural Changes

Abstract

This paper discusses how agriculture in Africa is influenced by chages including increased demand for agricultural products in domestic and international markets, population growth, and democratisation. It also considers the potential consequences of increased demand for agricultural land in Africa for large-scale farming operations, which may be juxtaposed with increased population pressure on land in some areas of existing smallholder cultivation.
