Final Report ESCOR Project R7594: Investment and Real Wages in African Manufacturing Firms: Creating jobs for poor people.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to advance understanding of two aspects of labour markets in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and the link to rates of firm investment. The first labour market issue is the limited growth of formal sector jobs, the second is the link from jobs to real wages. Both of these labour market issues are related to firms’ investment decisions. This report summarises the work of the project and briefly outlines the project outputs. A workshop presenting the project work is also summarised.
