Abstract
Since the second half of the 1980s and throughout the 1990s, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank have been heavily involved in promoting economic reform in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The purpose of the research was to analyse these externally supported economic reform programmes from a multi-disciplinary political economy and international relations perspective by using four country case studies, in Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco.
