Abstract

Fisheries are potential sources of significant wealth and, depending on their management and on wealth distribution, they contribute to both economic growth and poverty reduction.

This brief examines the potential ways in which fisheries can contribute to economic growth at national and local levels and considers the implications for fisheries policy in developing countries.
