Footpaths and tracks: a field manual for their construction and improvement.

Abstract

The manual includes guidelines on organisational issues; the appropriate standards for paths and tracks for different uses; and technical solutions to problems which are commonly encountered on paths and tracks. Problems covered are: reconstruction of paths; drainage; crossing marshy areas; paths on steep slopes; water crossings; simple footbridges; and path maintenance. Annexes include case-studies on improvement of paths and of problems that can arise from inadequate maintenance. A bibliography gives details of other sources of relevant information.
