Abstract

The helpdesk query focuses on the global experience in light of Zimbabwe’s recent indigenisation drive and looks at other countries that have pursued indigenisation policies similar to Zimbabwe’s. Specially looking at how these policies have been implemented and questioning what lessons have been learned. The term or Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) is commonly understood to increase local participation in or ownership of foreign-owned or managed companies. The duration and intensity of indigenisation programmes have varied by country, giving rise to different levels of research and evidence being available.
