Helpdesk Report: Affordability of Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) prevention

This report lists interventions listed as affordable by the WHO, along with cost estimates for interventions identified in the literature

Abstract

Query

Produce a report looking at evidence about the affordability of managing NCDs either through primary or secondary prevention in low income countries.

Overview

The WHO (2013) Global action plan for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, 2013-2020 outlines a combination of population-wide and individual interventions for prevention and control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) deemed to be ‘very cost-effective’. They estimate the cost of this, in terms of current health spending, to be 4% in low-income countries, 2% in lower middle-income countries and less than 1% in upper middle-income and high-income countries. This Helpdesk Report lists interventions listed as affordable by the WHO, along with cost estimates for specific interventions identified in the literature.
