HIV and AIDS Interventions in Bangladesh: Successes, Challenges and Ways Forward
Abstract
This report is derived from the realization that Bangladesh's response to HIV and AIDS has not kept pace with the ever increasing frequency of positive cases and the unfolding realities of the spread of HIV. It synthesizes the preexisting literature on HIV and AIDS in Bangladesh and incorporates individual, organizational and donor perspectives from 19 in-depth interviews.
The report begins by introducing the country's high-risk target groups (e.g. sex workers and their clients, male homosexuals, intravenous drug users, and migrant workers), and outlining Bangladesh's institutional framework for HIV and AIDS programs and major funding mechanisms for HIV and AIDS interventions. Second, the report brings to light some of the common challenges within HIV and AIDS interventions. Finally, it proposes ways to move forward towards more effective and successful HIV and AIDS interventions.
