Abstract

Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) is an innovative approach for mobilising communities to build their own toilets and stop open defecation. First pioneered in Bangladesh in 2000 it has now spread across Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. This issue of id21 highlights gives an overview of the approach as applied in different locations based on the IDS research and action learning programme, ‘Going to Scale?
