Identifying and tackling the social determinants of child malnutrition in urban informal settlements and slums : a cross national review of the evidence for action

Abstract

The primary aim of this structured literature review is to identify the social determinants of child malnutrition in the informal urban settlements and slums of developing countries and to synthesise evidence on the effectiveness of interventions to reduce malnutrition through changing these determinants. A secondary aim is to draw out the implications of the findings for the further development of a three year research study known as the NICK Project (Nutritional Improvement for children in urban Chile and Kenya).
