Abstract

Impacts of biofuel production on food security will depend upon the biofuel crop grown and the context in which it is grown. Three contexts for biofuel production are: the use of existing arable land, expansion of the agricultural frontier, and the use of marginal land not otherwise suitable for crop production. These are explored in this article, and effects on food security discussed.
