Increased Productivity and Profitability of Wheat-based Cropping Systems to Reduce Reliance on Opium Poppy in Northern Afghanistan

Abstract

This introductory presentation summarises the progress of the project which aimed to engage farmers in diversification of their farming systems with alternative high value livelihood options that improve productivity and profitability in wheat-based cropping systems. Key areas of the project are covered: markets and marketing; farming systems development; and capacity building. Current activities such as wheat variety trials are reviewed.
