Kinnow value chain. Knowledge gaps and ICT prevalence in the chain.

Abstract

Pakistan accounts for about 95 percent of the world total production of Kinnow, which is a type of mandarin. There exists substantial potential for improvement in the citrus value chain of Pakistan. One way is the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT). A study on the use of ICT in citrus production and marketing as a tool for poverty alleviation was conducted. Objectives of the study were to study the current practices of production and marketing of citrus fruit (Kinnow), to identify skill and information gaps at various transfer points of the citrus, and to examine how ICT can be used to bring improvement in the value of citrus products.
