Abstract

This Briefing Paper is the response to a DEWPoint helpdesk enquiry. It presents findings from a review of the literature on labour issues within the water, sanitation and hygiene sectors. The key labour issues discussed include: working conditions, comparison of the formal and informal sector, improving the skills of employees, workforce reduction, unions, public-private partnerships, and public-public partnerships.

This report was produced by DEW Point, a Resource Centre for Environment, Water and Sanitation, that was funded by DFID and managed by a consortium of companies led by Harewelle International Limited. The Resource Centre closed in 2012.
