Abstract

This project will analyse the potential influence of Muslim political representation on inter-religious violence in India. The study’s objectives are two-fold:

  1. To conduct a purposive survey designed to elicit the preferences of voters, with a focus on their policy preferences and the weight that they place upon politician identity (gender, ethnicity and religion)

  2. To conduct lab in field experiments designed to elicit preferences of each religious group towards the other in settings in which we create experimental variation in the salience of religion, politicians and politician religious identity. These will include trust and dictator games.
