Literature review: Renewable natural resource-use in livelihoods at the Calcutta peri-urban interface.

Abstract

This review summarises previous development initiatives related to land-water interface production systems at the Calcutta peri-urban interface. It describes the major production systems (wastewater aquaculture, horticulture, irrigated rice), the constraints facing operators, the benefits that may be contributing to the continued operation of these systems. Finally the report identifies some of the key knowledge gaps that require further research.
