Macroalgae in aquaculture: an overview and their possible roles in shrimp culture.

Abstract

This overview briefly covers the culture of seaweeds, species used, methods of culture, yields, growth conditions required, problems facing algal culturists, uses (with reference to their ability to recover nutrients from seawater which could be of use in preventing nutrient build-up in shrimp ponds), and British-Government-funded research on the ability of Gracilaria to remove nutrients from seawater. Four pages of references are given.
