Mobilising climate finance for grids: Taking stock of current financing approaches

This follow-up paper revisits the question of whether adopted approaches on climate finance eligibility are fit-for-purpose

Abstract

This paper is a follow up to the Climate Finance for Grid Investments in Emerging and Developing Economies report published in October 2021, in collaboration with the Green Grids Initiative (GGI) Finance Working Group (WG). This follow-up paper revisits the question of whether adopted approaches on climate finance eligibility are fit-for-purpose. It focuses on the perspectives of the finance community on the current approaches to climate finance, including benefits, challenges and potential changes to increase climate financing. It also highlights the role that modelling can play in identifying investment opportunities and assessing potential impacts of investments, focusing on interconnection projects.
