Multi-Stakeholder Programme in Afghanistan: Natural Ingredients for Food, Cosmetics and Pharmaceuticals

Abstract

This introductory presentation summarises a NOVIB-RALF project, conducted in Afghanistan to examine: mechanisms for sustainable resource management and utilsation of Liquorice, Cumin, Devil's Dung, Caraway, Wormseed and Jujube; generate community-based economic opportunities; and contribute to policy and regulations. The strategy for meeting the challenge of reducing agricultural dependancy on opium poppy cultivation is outlined.
