Panos Media Toolkit on Communicating Research, No. 6. Climate change: Adapting to the greenhouse

Abstract

For millions climate change will bring higher temperatures, less water, scarcer food and more risk of natural disasters, such as floods and storms.

To minimise these risks, international agencies, some governments, researchers and many campaigning organisations are working to cut greenhouse gas emissions - a process of mitigation. But the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) also advocates for adaptation.

This briefing explains why adapting to climate change is particularly important to developing countries, and how it might be done.
