Pastoralism: Progressing Policies that favour Pastoralists. 1. Opportunities for Development

This briefing presents the context, policy implications, ways forward and evidence of change

Abstract

Pastoralists across the world suffer serious problems of poverty, vulnerability to shocks and political marginality. This is the first in a set of 8 briefing notes. It looks at the main issues affecting pastoralists and highlights the importance of intensifying development efforts to pastoralists.

The briefings were based on a series of 8 Pastoralism Information Notes produced under the overall supervision of John Morton of the Natural Resources Institute, University of Greenwich. Each briefing presents the context, policy implications, ways forward and evidence of change.
