Policy Report on “Peer to Peer Deaf Literacy” (P2PDL)

Peer-to-Peer Deaf Literacy pilot project recommendations for innovating the teaching of English to deaf learners in India

Abstract

This policy report from the Peer-to-Peer Deaf Literacy pilot project summarises recommendations for innovating the teaching of English to deaf learners in India. In this pilot, which has led on to a larger 3-year project, the team designed, implemented, and evaluated English literacy instruction, with deaf peer tutors, online learning materials generated by learners, and Indian Sign Language for communication between tutors and learners.

This brief is part of the ‘Learning outcomes and teacher effectiveness for children facing multiple disadvantages, including those with disabilities: India and Pakistan’ project. It was supported by the Economic and Social Research Council-Department for International Development (ESRC-DFID) Raising Learning Outcomes in Education Systems Research Programme
