‘Politicking for the Poor’ Final Report to the U.K. Department for International Development Appendix 1. Introduction.

Abstract

This study assesses 3 leading politicians in Brazil, India and Uganda, all of whom faced many difficulties and still made significant headway against poverty. They demonstrated that political entrepeneurship has genuine promise in the service of poverty reduction, and that poverty reduction can serve the political interests of leaders. This introduction to the study (Politiking for the Poor: Senior Leaders Political Management of Pro-Poor Initiatives in an era of Centrists) situates the study and describes the case studies.
