Private sector development in fragile states

This review outlines the potential effects of PSD in fragile states and how programmes can be implemented in conflict-affected settings

Abstract

Private Sector Development (PSD) has been treated as an area of programming which is separate from post-conflict stabilisation for a long time. However, practitioners and scholars alike recently recognised the potentials of PSD programming in conflict-affected environments. This review will outline what is available in the literature about the potential positive, but also negative, effects of PSD in fragile states and how PSD programmes can be implemented in conflict-affected settings.
