Private Water Public Grime: Domestic Water Supply and Poverty Alleviation in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Abstract

Water supply and sanitation is increasingly becoming a proxy for poverty. Water supply as a key component of poverty alleviation has been identified in the Millennium Development Goals. This paper discusses water supply to the poor in Tanzania, and suggests that unless water is incorporated into grassroots poverty alleviation initiatives, the MDGs may not be reached.
