Promotion of ICPM for smallholder coffee in Malawi. Final Technical Report.

Abstract

The project contributed to the sustainable improvement of rural livelihoods in northern Malawi by making coffee growing more profitable for smallholders. In the remote hillside farming systems of northern Malawi, coffee is one of the few options for cash cropping, the only other alternative being tobacco. Yields are among the lowest in the world due to poor management but, despite the poor world price for coffee, there is a market for ‘Mzuzu’ coffee because of its high quality.
