Abstract
Bee pollen is pollen grains obtained from a wide range of plants, which bees collect to feed the young bees. It is rich in nutritional compounds (such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals), which together with phenol and other compounds, contribute to its antioxidant effects.
The researchers conducted a study to identify the major pollen sources in the southwest of Ethiopia, assess its composition and compare the antioxidant potential, especially the total polyphenol content in samples from the moist Afromontane forest. The nutritional analysis showed that bee pollen is an excellent food supplement for humans.
