Evidence search to support a business case for Afghanistan’s transport, energy and water infrastructure sectors

This is a rapid desk-based evidence search

Abstract

In this mini-review are to be found:

(a) additional details on Afghanistan’s economy and growth to support the overall business case;
(b) a rapid review of infrastructure and the extractive industries;
(c) a brief overview of infrastructure in fragile and conflict-affected states;
(d) an evidence note on strengthening the role of civil society and/or user groups in service delivery quality (where attitudes are partly determined by prior experience and expectations);
(e) examples of \"virtuous and vicious circles\" and willingness to pay for infrastructure services (water and energy focus); and
(f) a short background note and macro-economic overview of infrastructure needs in Asia (energy and water) and a summary of an evaluation of a decade of World Bank transport sector funding.

This report has been produced by Dr Yusaf Samiullah for Evidence on Demand with the assistance of the UK Department for International Development (DFID) contracted through the Climate, Environment, Infrastructure and Livelihoods Professional Evidence and Applied Knowledge Services (CEIL PEAKS) programme, jointly managed by HTSPE Limited and IMC Worldwide Limited.
