Abstract

The African coffee white stem borer, Monochamus leuconotus presents a major threat to coffee production in Africa.

This artcle describes an original method for rearing Monochamus leuconotus. It also provides unpublished biological data for the pest. Using this rearing method, the investigators were able to maintain a colony of coffee white stem borer continuously in the laboratory for three years. The article also provides useful information on the life history of the coffee white stem borer, including reproductive and feeding behaviours, and compares this information with previous reports, which fills the knowledge gaps on this important but neglected pest of coffee.
