Red de Protección Social, Nicaragua.
Abstract
The Red de Protección Social (RPS) is a conditional cash transfer programme and forms one part of Nicaragua's overall anti-poverty strategy. It is targeted explicitly at households in extreme poverty, and subject to rigorous monitoring and evaluation. Its main objectives are to: increase family spending on food; increase school enrolment and attendance among children aged 7-13; increase basic health care and nutrition of children aged under 9; improve pre-natal and post-natal care for women. The objectives, lessons learned, background, details, implementation, impact, and factors contributing to success are outlined.
