Renewing our commitment to social protection in Uganda: lessons from the International Conference on Social Protection for the Poorest in Africa.

Abstract

In September 2008, 130 participants from government institutions, civil society organisations and academic institutes from 19 countries converged in Entebbe for a two-day international conference on “Social Protection for the Poorest in Africa: Learning from Experience”. Conference presentations and discussions proved relevant to Uganda's national efforts to develop and implement social protection initiatives. This paper attempts to bring these lessons together, and draw conclusions.
