Research Methodologies in Humantarian Crises
How common the adaptation of methods is, how it can be implemented despite constraints, and how often innovative methods are applied
Abstract
There are many challenges to conducting research in humanitarian settings, but if a sound evidence base for humanitarian public health is to be established, the same standards of methodological and statistical rigour used in other research fields need to be used. This report asks: can methodological adaptation and innovation help conduct this high-quality research, despite the extra difficulties humanitarian health researchers face? The report looks at how common the adaptation of methods is, how it can be implemented despite constraints, and how often innovative methods are applied.
