Resources, Infrastructure, Demands and Entitlements (RIDe): a framework for holistic and problem-focussed water resources assessments

Abstract

The Resources, Infrastructure, Demand and entitlement (RIDe) model is a simple framework with generic application. It is based on the understanding that water resources are linked to people by supply (and disposal) infrastructure, and that each of these three system elements (resources, infrastructure, users) has its own set of institutions, boundaries and other characteristics. The RIDe framework was used to guide analysis at a river catchment scale in South Africa and at a village level scale in India.
