RiPPLE Information Sheet: Income Diversification

Abstract

Income diversification is one of the sub-themes of RiPPLE's Growth Long-term Action Research Studies examining the role of water investments (specifically irrigation) in increasing resilience of small-scale farmers through income diversification in different agro-ecological settings. Three sites with irrigation schemes have been selected for study, in different agro-ecological zones in Goro Gutu wereda. The study aims to draw lessons on the role of irrigation in income diversification – and how this has affected household assets and resilience to stress and shocks – and to assess how these benefits are affected by different scheme technologies and management systems.
