Social Sciences and AIDS vaccine research: The South African experience

Abstract

Social science research is a critical component of many of IAVI’s vaccine development partnerships. This document describes the IAVI-supported social and behavioral studies done by the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation and The Aurum Institute in South Africa. It also explains how the insights gleaned from such studies are applied to refine the conduct of clinical research critical to AIDS vaccine development.
