Strengths and Weaknesses of a Pro-Poor Tourism Approach, Results of a Survey to Follow-Up Pro-Poor Tourism Research Carried Out in 2000-2001.
Abstract
This working paper presents the results of a study that was undertaken in 2002 with the aim to assess whether a PPT approach makes a difference when assessing tourism initiatives, and if so how. It followed-up with the researchers and practitioners involved in case studies within the initial PPT research project: \"Pro-poor Tourism Strategies: Making Tourism Work for the Poor\" (2001).
The questions explored how they had used PPT, how it influenced their thinking or behaviour, and if they had criticism or improvement suggestions. The overall majority of respondents confirmed that the PPT approach was different and useful. A major strength is that it puts a variety of different issues into one framework, to form a comprehensive approach to tackling poverty reduction using tourism.
