Sustainable Use of Groundwater in the Semi-arid Ribbon Valleys of Northeast Brazil. Final Technical Report.

Abstract

This final report includes background to the project (including the Inception Stage), details of the project implementation, summaries of project activities, the project findings, and final conclusions and recommendations. Activities fall into five main areas: Livelihood, water use and environmental surveys; Guidelines for sustainable water resources management; Framework for participation and education; Operational strategy for integrated communications; and Guidance on monitoring and intervention strategies. Recommended follow-up activities relate to environmental education, to community capacity building in land and water resources management, and to institutional strengthening.
