Abstract

This paper studies early grade teacher attendance in a nationally representative sample of public primary schools in Tanzania with the aim of documenting high and costly levels of absence and exploring the linkage between teacher incentives and attendance.

This research is part of the Research on Improving Systems of Education programme.
