Testing drought-tolerant plant types of upland rice in Ghana using participatory methods

Abstract

This ten page document describes a participatory varietal selection (PVS) programme initiated in Ghana in 1997. Farmer selection criteria, seed managment and post-harvest evaluations are among the topics discussed. The final two sections consider informal seed dissemination and uptake pathways, and examine the uptake of the new PVS varieties by local farmers.
