The CABI Development Fund (CDF) Mid-term report to DFID 2010-2011.
This interim report covers all activities funded by the CABI Development Fund during the period April to September 2010
Abstract
This interim report covers all activities funded by the CABI Development Fund during the period April to September 2010. The Fund is treated as a single entity supported by the three contributing donor organizations (DFID, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), so the work described here is the composite output from all three funding sources.
This report highlights CDF initiatives in 2010-2011. These include the Plantwise initiative launched in 2010, which aims to raise rural incomes in developing countries by helping the world lose less of what it grows to plant pests and diseases. Today, there is no global pest and disease database: by using CDF support CABI, with the participation of a network of other supportive partners, can provide a unique vigilance system to guard against future crop losses and to highlight future research priorities. Other initiatives to support farmers, improve food security, protect biodiversity and share knowledge are described.
