The fate of agro-chemicals in the land-water interface, with reference to St Lucia and the wider Caribbean.

Abstract

There have been few studies conducted on the impact of agro-chemicals in the Lucian environment. In particular, fertiliser studies are lacking. Existing studies have focused on the levels of pesticides in potable water, watercourses, the marine environment and aquatic organisms.

Pesticide pollution is largely associated with the banana industry. Improper handling and storage, as well as intense use of pesticides have contributed to pesticide pollution of the environment.
